the crown of thorns... have u ever wondered?

Having read & seen in movies the re-enactment of Christ’s journey to the crucifixion ground; flogged/whipped by the soldiers, mocked/insulted/spat on by the crowd, crowned with the crown of thorns, nailed in his “hands” (though some argue that it was in the wrist – between the ulna & radius) & the feet, served vinegar for his thirst & challenged to come down from the cross….

We’ve been taught to view the crown of thorns as a particular gesture of insult that he be crowned “king” of kings… etc.

Some may beg to differ with the perspective I’m about to share, but in recent course of events, I’ve been pondering & hence my following thoughts
(purely my opinion – not challenging the gospel)

The crown of thorns…


We do not dispute the fact that He went to the cross to die a blameless sinless death, that the prophecy be fulfilled, and He - the Lord, Savior & Ultimate Sacrifice. (Dying in sinners stead – that all may receive salvation, by following in faith & discipline of The Way, Truth & Light)

The detail that I’m about to analyze is in particular, the crown of thorns he wore in our stead. Somehow, I felt there was some form of significance in relation to the pride/ego that we’re susceptible to exude. That we often put ourselves in the driving seat; will our ways, letting the pride/ego/face-value that we hold dearly – striving for excellence, fame & self-glorification… causing Him grief.

Typically exemplified in the recent era of existentialism…. When in fact, is a load of shame & warped perspective on the worldly meaning of “being in-charge” of our lives.

The crown of thorns… was it simply just an iconic accessory that was utilized as tool that insulted Him, or was it indicative that it was not just sins, but pride/ego too…?

Perhaps the significance of each little detail before, during & after the crucifixion process stands for reminders of our ways/actions… just that much have not been pondered upon...
